WE TRAVEL...January 4th

-45C with windchill of -49C on icy roads 

 A crisp cold winter morn

Whiteout conditions closed Hwy to Wawa behind us

We departed our home in Pinawa on a blustery, cold morn at 6AM with a temperature of -46C - as we drove on the very icy Trans-Canada highway, windchill was at -50C.  Warm winter attire along with a candle in the glove compartment was our hope of survival if we broke down along the way to White River, Ontario. The next morning saw us leaving  there at approximately 7AM in the same conditions, but, as we travelled  towards Wawa the weather turned even worse for us - whiteouts made treacherous driving. Passing an OPP police car travelling west - we very soon learned... the Highway was closed west from Wawa. We just made it - the rest of the drive was much the same, ending in Midland at 7PM in whiteouts. Hallelujah, another safe trip to Allan and Nicole's. Snooky you be a good dog for Allan until we return on May 20th.

Thanks again to Willie and Anne Langdjii - our stay in Yaoundé was comfortable and restful - even if Jack and Willie both woke up on Tuesday feeling achy! Little did Jack know he picked up that terrible flu that has hit all of Canada and the USA...

 We reached our destination - our home for 4.5 months - N'Gaoundéré, following an almost 20 hour train experience. The new train is great - the old schedule of TIME is the same... Patience and rest with opportunity to take great photos.

 

We share the French duplex with Brian Palmer - that is, he in one duplex - we in the corner one. Ready viewing of all football (soccer) games playing.

 On Sunday we attended the University of Ngaoundéré Worship service in their Church...what an exhilarating experience for 3 1/2 hours. We left home at 8 and returned at 1PM.

The red dusts are in abundance - the air today is thick with the harmattan winds off of the Sahara.  Jack's Canadian caught flu is still lingering, but with the meds received is waning. I have caught it also but, not as extreme. WE ARE TRYING...

 

We are safe - travel no farther than  Benoue National Park or to south of Garoua. Jack will be evangelizing in early February between Meiganga and Ngaoundal

NEWS from Kids Helping Kids.... July 5, 2014

Hello Papa Jack and Mama Val,

I have received your two e-mails and I was happy to read them. Thank you for your prayers and paying all your attention to us. Sorry for this long moment of silence. It happened because I postpone to write to you every day up to now.

About the KHK, since May we had many activities: pic-nique, games, singing in the chapel of the hospital. We had celebration during the African Child Day by eating the meals and juce made by our children. We had also two meetings with food distribution on June. Many photos of all the activities were taken but nevertheless our camera had been stolen with many belongings of Thomas in his house when he brought it at home to fix the problem known by you. I have some of the photos in my small camera, we'll send them to you.

We planed to work with Rev Besong Marie, but she was sick last week. I would like to inform you that Mr Gaknone Salomon is no more in charge of EELC Finance Department, it is Mr. Taki who replace him. You can contact him for the availability of KHK funds.

We will have our usal meeting next Sunday althougth some children have traveled during these holydays. We are preparing songs to sing at Bethanie church in town at August if the leaders of that congregation accept our request.

Finaly, I know you are waiting for the activities and financial reports with details. I want to do it with Rev Marie as soon as she will be available. Presently the number the orphans is 60 in the list. The difficulty is that all of them don't come at the same time in the meetings. I think it is important to send you the entire list of the children.

For school results most of the children have succeed and are promoted to higher classes. I don't have the exact numbers as some didin't bring back their report cards.

I hope to write to you very soon for the other information.

Dear Pastor Jack and Valerie 

i have just read your mail and think it is important to reply to it now. We are doing well and you too are also doing well.
We have done the handout  31st of march. The foods were packed today by Thomas and i. Wi will organise the distribution on the 6th april  after the spiritual retreat from 12 'O Clock. On that day we will take again the photos of new orphans. The problem still remain to send the photos to you because they are heavy but we will try to send them one by one because last time we did not succeed to send them to you and then the internet connection is  very slow.
I'm supprised you ask for the emergency  report since i and pastor Felix  we already send  to you and also for the scholarshipt last year.. However i will send you  again the details of both emergency and scholarship reports.
Please i wish you to send separetely the funds for emergency,food and scholarship to permit us to well mnage and clear reports.
So we will make our best to limitate the emergency care to 25.000 if i will have a case in which a child exceed the limit i will inform you to have your opinion.

Last time i told you about spiritual retreat, we will go in the protestant college with the children to pray,  study bible,sharing ,sing and many others.

I wish to write to you after the sunday activities.

NEWS from the Kids Helping Kids...February 16, 2014

Dear  Jack and Val,

I’m very sorry to write to you now after a long time of silence, since the last report that pastor Felix and I sent you. I think about both of you every day i hope that both of you are very fine and strong in this New Year. How about your grand daughter who has a heart problem?  As medicine is very developed in your country and God almighty can do a miracle for her health situation to give a smile and joy to all the family. Here in Ngdere everything is going quite well, all my family is doing fine. The main problem is that since December we don’t have an internet connection and our computer had some little problems and was with Daouda the informatician of OSEELC the computer you left is working better now.

 About the program we have being a little bit disturbed by a problem of connection to send you regularly and progressively the information about the activities. We still have the problem of Camera and actually is with a hospital informatician but he cannot solve the problem.  The last photos we send you were taken with pastor’s Felix camera, now he is in Banso. For this year we already had 3 meetings. The children are very active; we began to design uniforms for them. Now, 15 children have their uniforms. We have chosen blue shirts for everybody boys and girls but black trousers for boys and black skirts for girls. We planned many new activities this year; you can find details at the end of this document.

Please we have a question about the health fund, is there a limit amount for every child who felt sick? We ask this because last year some orphans medical care took much money,  others like Peguy Jean Calvin went up to 100.000 Frs  and personally I want to ask the families to contribute if the bill amount of one child has reached the limit.

Otherwise, I propose for this year to replace immediately a child who missed the meeting 3 times successively after a home visit if the family doesn’t have a convincible reason.  We want to make you know that every time people bring to our service new orphans who loosed both parents. If it s possible we want to reorganize the program so that we can obtain 90% - 95% orphans without both parents.

We still wait for your suggestions about the program. We want to work better than last year. We reiterate that we will do our best mainly in communication to make you know everything or any changes in the program.

As you know the human being is never perfect so please forgive all the lack of our work during 2013 and considering that everything is now new. We want to continue working for the program with the wisdom and strength given by GOD.  We know that you are praying for us thanks very much for that.

May GOD continue to bless every one of you in your synod, all of you show us love and help the KHK orphans with education and food supply.

Dear Jack and Mama Valery and all friends of KHK program in Cameroon,

Happy new year 2014.

May the blessings of God precede you in everything you will undertake in this new year. Here in Ngoundere we are doing fine and we hope you as well.

We celebrated our “Christmas” feast last December 21^st and we had food distribution. All the parents of the children were invited but just a few came. I don’t know the reason of their absence on that day. There were seventy five children so as fifty seven from KHK and eighteen invitees from their friends of the KHK.

Things happened so fine and the Christmas feast was very nice with songs, dances, sketch (role play), poems and bible verses. In fact we set up a small choir group made of girls and boys of KHK program here. For the moment our uniform is white tee-shirt and black trousers (for boys) and skirts (for girls). Each meeting, we then have fifteen minutes for prayers and other stuffs. Last time the children proposed that we pray for you those helping them. It was exciting to listen to a small girl who prayed in French asking God to watch over the children and grandchildren of the helpers through KHK program in Cameroon.

I will mention that this year the protestant hospital (through the chaplaincy department and pastor Abdoulaye) brought Christmas gifts to KHK children. You can just imagine how happy they were this recent end of year 2013.

The food distribution occurred that day at my old office. In addition to food usually distributed, there were beignets, popcorn and candies. We took some photos by phone. Our fear now is wether we’ll succeed in sending them to you. There was no video.  We preconize to send some of those photos to you as possible as it will be.

One more time, thanks to all of you brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors in Christ who pray and support the beautiful and weak children of KHK in Cameroon. Other details of our work will be sent to you very soon.
