WE TRAVEL...January 4th
-45C with windchill of -49C on icy roads
A crisp cold winter morn
Whiteout conditions closed Hwy to Wawa behind us
Uncle Jack's lil buddy, Micah
A beautiful sunrise at 6:30AM
The train ride
that took us past small villages
beautiful rivers
and great scenery
Traditional Beehive
Free grazing cattle
Are these limb fences to keep animals off tracks?
Washing clothes along the way
Jack always recalls his 4 days in Makor Regional meetings
our two person couchette - nice new train
We're winding our way towards Ngaoundéré
the ground is getting redder
Mud bricks for homes
We departed our home in Pinawa on a blustery, cold morn at 6AM with a temperature of -46C - as we drove on the very icy Trans-Canada highway, windchill was at -50C. Warm winter attire along with a candle in the glove compartment was our hope of survival if we broke down along the way to White River, Ontario. The next morning saw us leaving there at approximately 7AM in the same conditions, but, as we travelled towards Wawa the weather turned even worse for us - whiteouts made treacherous driving. Passing an OPP police car travelling west - we very soon learned... the Highway was closed west from Wawa. We just made it - the rest of the drive was much the same, ending in Midland at 7PM in whiteouts. Hallelujah, another safe trip to Allan and Nicole's. Snooky you be a good dog for Allan until we return on May 20th.
This is my song, O God of all the nations,
a song of peace for lands afar and mine.
This is my home, the country where my heart is;
here are my hopes - my dreams - my holy shrine;
but other hearts in other lands are beating
with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.
So hear my song, O God of all the nations,
a song of peace for their land and for mine.
O God, be lifted up till all shall serve you,
and hearts united learn to live as one.
Thanks again to Willie and Anne Langdjii - our stay in Yaoundé was comfortable and restful - even if Jack and Willie both woke up on Tuesday feeling achy! Little did Jack know he picked up that terrible flu that has hit all of Canada and the USA...
New friends White and James working for LWFUncle Jack's lil buddy, Micah
We also thank our friends Michelene, Stephan, Rodrique and Serge for their support in seeing me, Val to the official government offices to question the whereabouts of my Residence/Identity Card? A promise to receive in about 10 days from today...Merci beaucoup!

We reached our destination - our home for 4.5 months - N'Gaoundéré, following an almost 20 hour train experience. The new train is great - the old schedule of TIME is the same... Patience and rest with opportunity to take great photos.
We share the French duplex with Brian Palmer - that is, he in one duplex - we in the corner one. Ready viewing of all football (soccer) games playing.
On Sunday we attended the University of Ngaoundéré Worship service in their Church...what an exhilarating experience for 3 1/2 hours. We left home at 8 and returned at 1PM.
University Residence built in early 2001 by Canadian church - Jack oversaw the building project
The red dusts are in abundance - the air today is thick with the harmattan winds off of the Sahara. Jack's Canadian caught flu is still lingering, but with the meds received is waning. I have caught it also but, not as extreme. WE ARE TRYING...
We are safe - travel no farther than Benoue National Park or to south of Garoua. Jack will be evangelizing in early February between Meiganga and Ngaoundal
(marked in a red line)
NOTE: NO TRAVEL in the NORTH. Enlarge this map to view
Keep us in your prayers - as we do, for
ALL our family and friends. God Bless
Jack & Val
Love it, gma! Miss you both :)
